Mr. Ali farms a total of 700 acres of onions for the catering industry in and around Yaxley. Of these, 150 acres typically relied on the resilience of the crop to tolerate drier conditions. However, in recent years, extended dry spells in spring and summer have begun to severely impact both germination and maturation in these fields.

Facing the possibility of taking this land out of production for onions, Mr. Ali approached Team Sprayers in April to explore a new approach to field irrigation. The result was the creation of a tailored solution: the Leader Trailed Irrigator, a 6000-litre sprayer built on Team’s proven Leader 4 chassis, fitted with a cost-effective and efficient 8-metre boom.

At QFC, the boom spans 7 beds in a single pass—each bed holding 8 rows of onions. While operating at a forward speed of just 2–3 km/h, the sprayer delivers approximately 160 litres of water per minute through XT nozzles, emptying the tank in around 35-40 minutes. Crucially, thanks to a 600L/minute pump, the refill time is a swift 10 minutes—minimizing downtime and maximizing output during critical dry periods.

The system was delivered in early July 2025 and has already been deployed in response to the latest hot and dry spell of weather.

“Our catering customers demand high quality, large onions,” said Mr. Ali. “We were struggling on one area of the farm to grow to the spec that our customers demand due to lack of irrigation. We were also having problems with the crop failing to set after planting due to the land capping.

We approached Danny at Team to discuss a possible solution. They delivered the Team Leader Trailed Irrigator, and instead of waiting for drilling we immediately started using it to support the lack of irrigation on the 150 acres where we don’t currently irrigate. We are really pleased with it, and it’s definitely doing a job that we could not do with the usual methods of irrigation.”

The Leader Trailed Irrigator is now helping to protect yields, preserve land productivity, and secure the high standards required by QFC’s catering clients.

Already a very popular model for us, the Club model has been updated for 2025 to make it even better. Working closely with existing Club users to understand their needs, we have updated the model to include a new more compact tank design which maximises the operator’s visibility from the rear window, over the back of the sprayer. The tank chassis has been redesigned to accommodate bolt on accessories such as a foam marker or a hose reel; so two jobs can be completed at once. Also included in the upgrade is an integral water tank for system and spray line flushing as well as a second integral tank for hand washing.

The Team Club range includes tank sizes from 300 – 800 litres all fitted with a high quality poly’ diaphragm pump which can withstand any aggressive plant protection chemicals. The spray booms are all constructed of strong tubular steel and are available in 6-12m widths which fold to a compact 1.9m or 2.4m for transport and, no matter the size, all are fitted with a break back feature to avoid damage from unseen obstructions. Team’s Club sprayers are also now suitable for category 2 tractor pick up as well as the standard category 1 and all include clothes storage for all PPE equipment.

This upgrade follows a raft of improvements made to our ground care sprayers for 2025 which has also seen improvements made to their Cub, Scout and Vixen SP Pro pedestrian sprayers.

The Cub and Scout models are mainstays of our pedestrian sprayer range. These models are perfect for grounds men and green keepers who require efficient and simple to use pedestrian sprayers.

Both the Cub and Scout models include a handle mounted on/off switching and pressure regulation control system with a clear, easy to read gauge and a spray or tank agitation valve to ensure the tank formulation is kept in suspension. They include a 2M 4 nozzle folding spray boom is removable for transportation and can be swapped for the wider 3M 6 nozzle boom or the 1M Dritftmaster covered boom system. The standard models of each machine is supplied with an 8L/M diaphragm pump and a single anti-drip check valve nozzle bodies with Lechlar IDK low-drift spray nozzles, an optional upgrade to triple nozzle assemblies is available if required. The polythene tanks are designed with a large access for easy filling and a tank drain valve for complete emptying and flushing out. The main difference between the two models is the tank capacities; the Cub has a 25 litre tank capacity and the Scout 60L.

Working in collaboration with trusted users we have made changes to these already popular models to make them even more user-friendly. These upgrades for the Team Cub and Scout models include a new compact design for easy transport and storage. There is a new plumbing system that ensures there’s no chemical wastage. There’s a new lid for easier filling and a new easy fold handle and boom.

The improved plumbing system has already been tried and tested on the new Vixen SP Pro model which launched in 2024. Other upgrades to this model, the largest of their pedestrian sprayer models with a 150l capacity tank, include a new lithium battery with Bluetooth connection to a battery APP as well as new controls for easier spray function.
